Zaobao.com and Shanda Literature Singapore launch literary website
Singapore, 21 June 2010 --- Zaobao.com （联合早报网）, the online version of Lianhe Zaobao, which is the Chinese flagship daily of Singapore Press Holdings (SPH), today signed a Strategic Collaboration Agreement with Shanda Literature Singapore (SDLs/ 盛大文学新加坡) to launch the literary site, books.zaobao.com.
The literary site will allow readers of zaobao.com to have free access into a world of online Chinese literature.
Mr Lim Jim Koon (林任君）, Editor of Lianhe Zaobao, signed the agreement with Mr Zhou Hongli (周洪立), Chief Copyright Officer of Shangda Literature (SDL/盛大文学) at the SPH News Centre this morning.
SDLs is the first overseas subsidiary set up by SDL. As the leader of China's online literature, SDL owns more than 90% of the resources in the literary field. SDL has already accumulated copyrights to more than 50 billion words of original Chinese literature including classics, novels and other e-books. This figure is increasing at a rate of 60 million words a day.
Zaobao.com, which uses Lianhe Zaobao as its main news source, is the top news website in Singapore and the region. It has been selected by China World Records Association as having recorded the greatest number of page views among China's foreign news sites.
Mr Zheng Wei （郑维）, Online Editor of Lianhe Zaobao, said: "We are happy to partner SDL, the leader in China's original literature and copyrights operator. SDL has a competitive advantage in terms of business model, content and users. As for Zaobao.com, we have a wide audience reach and strong influence among Chinese readers in Singapore, Southeast Asia and the world. With this partnership, both companies will enjoy a boost in their business development."
Mr Zhou Zhen Wei (周桢炜), General Manager of SDLs, said: "Being SDL's first overseas subsidiary, SDLs will become an important export channel for China's original web literature. SDLs will progressively adopt SDL's successful business experience and duplicate it for Singapore's operation. In the future, SDLs' business activities will gear towards online literary sites tie-up, online paid reading, works publishing and copyrights cooperation."

Broadcasting
SPH has a 20 per cent stake in MediaCorp TV Holdings Pte Ltd, which operates free-to-air channels 5, 8 and U, and a 40 per cent stake in MediaCorp Press Limited, which publishes the free newspaper, Today. In the radio business, SPH has an 80 per cent stake in SPH UnionWorks Pte Ltd, which operates entertainment stations Radio 100.3 in Mandarin and 91.3FM in English.
Events and Outdoor Advertising
SPH’s events subsidiary Sphere Exhibits organises innovative consumer and trade events and exhibitions. In addition, SPH has ventured into out-of-home (OOH) advertising through its wholly-owned subsidiary, SPH MediaBoxOffice Pte Ltd, Singapore’s largest outdoor motion display advertising network media company.
Properties
SPH owns and manages Paragon, the prime retail and office complex in the heart of Orchard Road, Singapore's main shopping belt. SPH's wholly-owned subsidiary, Times Development Pte Ltd, is also developing a 43-storey upmarket residential condominium, Sky@eleven, at Thomson Road.
