Eventful Day for 20,000 Participants of The New Paper Big Walk @ Marina Bay

Singapore, 18 July 2010 – Prime Minister Lee Hsien Loong flagged off some 20,000 participants for The New Paper Big Walk @ Marina Bay this morning. The participants were also among the first visitors to the iconic attractions at the Marina Bay Waterfront Promenade area which were officially opened by Prime Minister (PM) Lee today.
The 4km scenic route started at the Singapore Flyer and took walkers towards the direction of the commanding Benjamin Sheares Bridge. As part of the route, participants also walked on the actual track that is used by the turbo-charged Formula One machines during the racing season.
Apart from the walk itself, participants were also looking forward to laying their hands on the goodie bags which were packed with attractive goodies, including a ticket for a ride on the Singapore Flyer worth $29.50. Early birds received extra goodies such as frisbees sponsored by NTUC Fairprice, and a towel / visor from Nikon.
During the walk, walkers also participated in interesting contests, such as "Kilo Marker" and "Most Creative Costume", which may win them attractive prizes, sponsored by Presenter NTUC Fairprice and partners Singapore Flyer, POSB, Anlene, Garmin-Asus and Nikon.
Mr Dominic Nathan, Editor of The New Paper, said,"We are thankful to our partners for making this year's Big Walk such an enjoyable and memorable event. And to the walkers, we hope that they have enjoyed themselves as much as The New Paper had, in bringing this family event to them."
Participants ended their morning walk at the newly-opened Marina Bay Waterfront Promenade area, where the Big Carnival @ Marina Bay awaited them. Organised by SPH MediaBoxOffice, the carnival featured an attractive line-up of activities including exciting performances and games, as well as delectable food.
The New Paper Big Walk @ Marina Bay was co-organised with the Urban Redevelopment Authority (URA).
