Sphere Exhibits Acquires Eastern Directories’ Exhibitions

Singapore, 13 October 2010 - Sphere Exhibits Pte Ltd’s (Sphere Exhibits) wholly-owned subsidiary, Exhibits Inc Pte Ltd, has taken over Eastern Directories' signature events - COMEX, IT SHOW, World Food Fair and Food and Beverage Fair - as well as its key staff. Sphere Exhibits is a wholly-owned subsidiary of Singapore Press Holdings Limited (SPH).

With this acquisition, Sphere Exhibits’ presence in the consumer events and exhibitions domain of the fast-growing Meetings, Incentives, Conferences and Exhibitions (MICE) industry will be strengthened. Established in 2008, Sphere Exhibits has successfully organised a series of consumer events. Some of these include The Food Safari, Beerfest Asia, Food and Travel Asia, Food and Electronics, Licence2Play as well as the upcoming Asian Masters and Wine for Asia.

Mr Chua Wee Phong, Executive Director of Sphere Exhibits, said: “This acquisition will boost our portfolio of consumer events. It will make us one of the leading players in the IT and Food & Beverage sectors, which forms a large part of the consumer events market, given Singaporeans’ passion for IT gadgets and food.”

He added: “We will also leverage on SPH's media assets to promote our events to the public, our advertisers and exhibitors. In the pipeline too are new concepts and exciting events to showcase our versatility and innovation, and to add to the vibrancy of the MICE landscape in Singapore.”

Mr Robin Hu, Chairman of Sphere Exhibits, said: “With our expanded portfolio, we are poised to become a key player in the MICE industry with significant presence in the consumer sector to begin with.”

He added: “Sphere Exhibits expanded into outdoor lifestyle events last year, and will make its foray into trade events with the launch of BuildTech Asia and InterDecAsia next year.”

CIMB Bank Berhad, Singapore Branch, was the financial advisor to SPH in relation to this acquisition.

In July this year, SPH also acquired BizLink Services Pte Ltd and hosted its signature event, the Singapore Gifts and Premiums Fair. Its other trade show, Franchising and Licensing Asia, will be held at the Marina Bay Sands Singapore later this month from 21 to 23 October.
