Singapore, 23 April 2014 – Over 80 awards were given out today to companies of consumer products and services at the AsiaOne People's Choice Awards 2014.
The AsiaOne People's Choice Awards 2014 is the website’s initiative to give consumers an opportunity to vote for Singapore’s favourite consumer products and services.
AsiaOne is a news and lifestyle website which aggregates the rich content of Singapore Press Holdings’ (SPH) newspapers and magazines.
More than 200,000 votes from the public were cast over a three-month voting period for 300 nominations over 28 categories.
In a reflection of the growing diversity of choices for consumers, four new categories were added: Best Family-Friendly Mall, Best Attraction, Best Boutique Hotel and Best Cafe.
The Best Family-Friendly Mall, Best Chinese Restaurant and Best Bank attracted the most number of votes.
The Guest-of-Honour for the awards, Mr Kurt Wee, President of the Association of Small and Medium Enterprises (ASME), noted that AsiaOne People’s Choice Awards plays an important role in providing feedback from consumers to companies.
Mr Wee said: "With technology, it is so much easier and convenient for the public to express their satisfaction or unhappiness with products and services.”
Commenting on why his company chose to sponsor the AsiaOne People’s Choice Awards 2014, Mr Chan Kee Siak, CEO of Exabytes Network (Singapore) Pte. Ltd, said: “We always need recommendations as there are so many options out there. The AsiaOne People's Choice Awards stands out as one of the neutral sources for recommendations, voted by the people, for the people.“
Carousel was a double winner this year, scooping up its fifth Best Buffet Restaurant award as well as being inducted into the AsiaOne People's Choice Awards' Hall of Fame.
Winners who have received the AsiaOne People’s Choice Award five times are honoured with a place in the Hall of Fame.
Mr Adrian Tay, Editor of AsiaOne, said: "The People's Choice Awards is a platform for consumers to have their voices heard, and the year-on-year increase in votes is a testament to that.”
Guests at the awards were treated to delicacies from award-winning restaurants Carousel and Kuishin Bo.
