Singapore, 9 June 2014 --- The Singapore Book Fair 2014（新加坡书展）will be held at the Suntec Singapore International Convention and Exhibition Centre, Exhibition Hall 401 - 402 from 10 to 16 June 2014.
The annual event is open daily from 11am to 10pm, except for 10 June (4pm to 10pm) and 16 June (11am to 8pm). Admission is free.
Back for the 29th year, the Singapore Book Fair is organised by Singapore Press Holdings' Chinese Newspapers Division (新加坡报业控股华文报集团) and supported by Ministry of Education（新加坡教育部）, National Library Board（国家图书馆管理局), Institute of Technical Education（新加坡工艺教育局）, Lianhe Zaobao, Lianhe Wanbao, Shin Min Daily News, The Straits Times and UFM100.3.
About 150 publishers across Asia will be showcased this year, together with a wide range of educational materials, teaching resources, supplementary materials, periodicals, enrichment programmes.
Seminars by renowned local and foreign writers from China, Malaysia, Taiwan, Hong Kong and United States will be a highlight at the fair. They will speak on a wide range of topics including lifestyle, parenting, healthcare and fengshui. Some authors will also conduct book review discussions.
Notable writers such as Master Xiao Hong Chi （萧宏慈老师), a Chinese specialist in La Jin Pai Da Therapy （拉筋拍打) will speak at the seminar. A special focus will be on Taiwanese writers at the Taiwan Writer's Night (爱阅读•悦读爱) from 12 to 15 June. Four celebrated Taiwanese writers, namely Dr. Hao Yu Xiang (郝誉翔博士), Mdm Chen Yuhong (陈育虹女士), Mr Lo Chih Cheng (罗智成先生) and Mr Yang Chao (杨照先生) will share about their passion on reading, writing and the world of literature.
The Book Swop, which encourages book lovers to exchange books with other avid readers, is back by popular demand. It is jointly organised by Radin Mas Citizens' Consultative Committee and National Library Board (NLB).
Appearing for the first time at the book fair is My Tree House, a "green library" which showcases green building technologies and environmentally sustainable materials. It is a replica of the original one set up at Central Public Library and aims to educate the public, especially children, on the importance of conserving the environment. The replica, which is located at the Activity Corner of the fair, is jointly sponsored by National Library Board and City Developments Limited (CDL). There will also be daily activities such as storytelling sessions and handicraft workshops at the Activity Corner.
In line with the objective of the Singapore Book Fair, which is to foster reading habit and inculcate the importance of education amongst the young, the organiser, with the support of Kwan Im Thong Hood Cho Temple, will issue S$50,000 worth of book vouchers to over 1000 children from low-income families. These children are from self-help groups including the Chinese Development Assistance Council, Mendaki, Sinda and the Singapore Eurasian Association. Each child will receive S$50 worth of book vouchers to purchase books and education materials.
Over 150,000 visitors are expected at the fair this year. Apart from the wide range of books, this year's event will also include book launches, meet-the-author sessions, educational talks, as well as copyright signing ceremony.
Mr Teo Ser Luck, Minister of State for Trade & Industry and Mayor of North East District, will be the Guest of Honour at the opening ceremony on 11 June. He will also present the Inspiring Chinese Language Teachers Awards （全国模范华文教师奖）at the opening ceremony. There are 9 winners this year.

Highlights of Singapore Book Fair 2014
Wide Selection of Books, Magazines, Educational Materials and E-books
There will be a wide selection of fiction and non-fiction titles for children and adults, as well as resource materials, magazines, religious content materials and supplementary books not commonly found in bookshops. Also available are innovative products and interactive games to help children develop their mental and social skills through play.
The Book Swop will be held from 10 - 16 June (from 11am, 11 to 16 June and from 4pm on 10 June). Members of the public are encouraged to bring along their old books to participate in the Book Swop. A coupon will be issued for each book collected. The coupon can be used to exchange for other books. Fiction and non-fiction books in the four official languages are accepted. Textbooks, assessment books, magazines and audio-visual materials will not be accepted at the Book Swop. Each person will be entitled to a lucky dip for every 10 books exchanged.
Overseas publishers including those from China and Taiwan will participate in this year's book fair. These publishers will offer a wide range of best-selling books. The genre include English and Chinese novels, medical, cultural, health and wellness, children's books, self-help and more.
The Lifestyle Pavilion will offer lifestyle products specially brought in from Taiwan, China, Malaysia, as well as Singapore.

2) ‘My Tree House’ and Activity Corner by National Library Board (NLB)
A replica of ‘My Tree House’ from the Central Library is set up at the Activity Corner. This replica is sponsored by NLB and City Developments Limited (CDL) to encourage children to explore, discover and challenge their curiosity in learning and caring for the environment.
Daily activities at the Activity Corner:
- Story-telling session by National Library Board from 11 – 15 June (12-12.30pm)
- Local author Anna Phang will conduct story-telling session and handicraft workshop using environmental and recycling contents from 11 - 13 June (2- 5pm)
- Institute of Technology Education, College Central students will conduct comic drawing workshops from 14 – 15 June (1.30pm-2.30pm and 3.30pm – 4.30pm)
- People’s Association SG50 will showcase their plastic flower folding sessions from 11 – 16 June
- Radin Mas Citizens' Consultative Committee will showcase their creative artwork using recycling CDs from 11-16 June
- ITE students from the Early Childhood Education course will showcase their self designed games from 14 – 15 June(12.30 – 1.30pm)
Institute of Technology Education (ITE), College Central showcases students' works
Students from ITE will be showcasing their works at the fair. These works, which include animation, comic drawing, games design, as well as pre-school games, are all created by students from various ITE courses such as Nitec in Digital Animation Course, School of Design and Media, Games Design and Development, Higher Nitec in Games Design and Development Course, School of Electronics & Info-Comm Technology, Higher Nitec in Early Childhood Education and School of Business and Services.
Japanese Pop Culture Research Club
Meet eye-catching Cosplay characters at the opening ceremony. Students from the Japanese Pop Culture Research Club Cosplay Division will dress up in Cosplay costumes to welcome the Guest of Honour. ITE will also have a booth at A19 offering animation and games for the public.
Show Promotion: Lucky Dip
Visitors who spend $30 at the book fair will be entitled to a lucky dip and stand a chance to win attractive prizes. While stocks last.
Top Brand Asia 2014
Visitors can visit Top Brand Asia（亚太杰出品牌展）exhibition at Hall 403 to purchase some of Asia’s top brands merchandises. The exhibition is organised by Global Business Media Group（商天下国际传媒集团，新加坡）and supported by Lianhe Zaobao.
