STJobs donates $150,000 to NTU Fest

Singapore, 16 August 2014 --- Singapore Press Holdings' online job portal, STJobs, is the Platinum Sponsor of NTU Fest - a charity event organised by students of Nanyang Technological University (NTU).

NTU Fest marks the start of the University’s new academic year and aims to raise money for an endowment fund in aid of students from the Institute of Technical Education (ITE) who need financial assistance. It will be held at the Padang on 16 August, from 2pm to 9pm. It is open to public. Admission is free. The Straits Times is NTU Fest's Presenting Sponsor.

As the Platinum Sponsor of NTU Fest, STJobs has made a donation of $150,000 to NTU to help make this event possible.

Ms Tan Su-Lin, Deputy Head of SPH's Digital Division, said: "STJobs is pleased to support the efforts of NTU and its students to help their counterparts in ITE. It is a worthy cause and we are happy to be part of it. It is also gratifying to know that these young men and women, who will play important roles in the future of Singapore, are able to think for others and care for fellow Singaporeans. NTU Fest is an excellent platform for the undergraduates to showcase their creativity and generosity towards others."

NTU Fest’s organising chairperson Ms Wu Guo Yi, a final-year NTU chemistry student, said, “We are delighted to have STJobs as our Platinum Sponsor.  STJobs is a relevant job portal that gives NTU and ITE students a head start in their career by linking them up with numerous job and internship opportunities across a wide spectrum of industries. It will be very difficult to organise an event of this scale on our own without the generous support of sponsors like STJobs."

Mr Heng Swee Keat, Minister for Education, will launch the carnival and flag-off a 4.8-kilometre 5TYLO MILE-O Run.

The public can support this charity event by buying carnival tickets for use at the various booths and taking part in the fun run in the afternoon.

The carnival booths, run by NTU and ITE students, will feature food, games and fun activities for all ages. In addition, there will also be a fun photo booth by STJobs.

The run costs $10 to register. Runners will take an exciting route around the historic Civic District along the Singapore River, from Esplanade Park through Fort Canning Hill and back to the Padang.

The event will culminate in a special performance by Korean rapper Kang Gary, one of the seven hosts of the immensely popular entertainment show
Running Man and his female singing partner, Jung-In.

Ahead of the event, Kang Gary had a special message for NTU students and his fans. He said: “Thank you very much for inviting me to your fantastic festival. I am happy to meet you and look forward to having a great time with you. I know you are all eager to see me too. Please wait a few more days! I wish you all the best in your life as your university is the best! Try everything when you’re young! I love you NTU!"

Fellow K-pop star Jung-In said, "When I heard about this charity event the NTU students were planning, I thought it was such a fantastic idea. It is very admirable that the NTU students are helping other students to receive the financial support they need for their education so they can create a better life for themselves and their families. Music touches everyone and Gary and I are happy we can use our music to help them achieve their target."
