Shape Run 2014 wins the hearts of runners, pacers and supporters

Shape Run 2014 wins the hearts of runners, pacers and supporters

Singapore, August 17, 2014 – Shape Run 2014, the ninth edition of Singapore’s original women-only running event, concluded successfully this morning at Nicoll Highway.

Organised by Shape Singapore, a publication licensed under American Media Inc. and published by SPH Magazines Pte Ltd, this year’s run saw a turnout of over 9,000 – including mothers and their children aged under 10 who joined the new Me and Mini Me 1.8km Fun Run.

Among the participants were 27 special racers who joined Shape Run 2014 for a good cause: 13 contestants from the Miss Singapore International Beauty Pageant 2014, along with 14 past pageant titleholders, completed 5km in a bid to raise $10,000 for three beneficiaries, including THK Home for Disabled @ Eunos, Singapore Women's Association and Lions Home For The Elders.

The presence of four male celebrities in the pacer groups also boosted the runners’ morale – and created plenty of photo opportunities. Fly entertainment artistes Allan Wu and Bobby Tonelli joined the 10km pacer groups of 1hr 10min and 1hr 20 min respectively, while Andrew Lua and Jimmy Taenaka were part of the 5km group (35min).

New champions of the 10km and 5km races were minted. In the 10km race, Vanja Cnops came in first at 37 min 33 sec. The 27-year-old Beljian bagged $5,000 worth of products and services. The 2013 winner clocked a time of 37 min 16 sec.

Emerging tops at 5km race was Suzanne Walsham, 41, Singaporean PR, who completed the run in 18 min 27 sec. Her prize was $250 in cash as well as products and services worth $4,000.  Last year’s time was 18 min 52 sec. .

The fastest runners were not the only ones rewarded at Shape Run 2014. This year, everyone who completed the Me and Mini Me 1.8km Fun Run as well as the 5km and 10km races received a Finisher medal and an exclusive Finisher’s Tee proudly sponsored by Orbis. After the run, participants partied on with an upbeat session of Zumba led by True Fitness. The race carnival was abuzz with activity as runners milled around sponsors’ booths to sample new products and services as well as participate in lucky draws and other contests.

Li Yuling, editor, Shape, SPH Magazines, said: “Shape Run is a celebration of life, health and fitness. Whether you’re a competitive athlete, recreational runner or occasional jogger, joining Shape Run is a definite must because it promises an experience that is different from any other. There’s no better motivation than running alongside your loved ones and other like-minded people, and we are glad that Shape Run provides this opportunity for women of all ages and fitness levels. Today has been awesome.”

Diana Lee, General Manager, Fashion & Beauty, SPH Magazines, said: “The atmosphere for this year’s Shape Run was amazing. It’s rewarding for us to see so many happy faces in the crowd, of runners and supporters alike. We’d like to extend warmest thanks to our sponsors and partners who helped us along every step of the way to make today’s event a success. We hope the participants are also proud to have run a good race – especially those who joined our pacers for the three training runs held before this event. Next year marks the 10th anniversary of Shape Run, so runners can look forward to an even more exciting race.”
