Singapore Press Holdings and Singapore Press Holdings Foundation donate $1 million to charity

Singapore, 3 November 2014 - In celebration of Singapore Press Holdings' (SPH) 30th anniversary this year, SPH and SPH Foundation will present $1 million (with government matching under the Care & Share Movement) to 50 charities at “A Nation in Concert”, a musical by The Rotary Club of Pandan Valley that features a cast of theatre practitioners and underprivileged talents at the Marina Bay Sands Theatre on 8 November 2014.  Besides the monetary donation, SPH will also invite about 200 beneficiaries from the selected charities to the musical performance.

SPH is the platinum sponsor for this musical and a cheque will be presented to Community Chest after the matinee show by SPH and SPH Foundation Chairman Dr Lee Boon Yang.

Every year, SPH and SPH Foundation work with Community Chest to identify charities serving the needy elderly as well as disadvantaged children and youth for its annual charity cheque presentation. SPH and SPH Foundation also contribute to other charities and causes throughout the year.

On top of the cheque donation, all net proceeds from this musical will be channelled to participating charities: Association for Persons with Special Needs, Handicaps Welfare Association, The Singapore Association for the Deaf, Singapore Association of the Visually Handicapped, and be entitled to matching grants by the government on a one for one basis under the Care & Share Movement.

Dr Lee said: “At SPH we always remember fellow Singaporeans who are needy or underprivileged. Our Corporate Social Responsibility programme is aimed at helping them. As we celebrate our 30th Anniversary this year, we are delighted to do our part to strengthen community ties and social cohesiveness. We also thank our readers and partners for your invaluable support over the years."
