InvestingNote to use crowdsourced information to promote financial literacy

Singapore, 21 March 2015 – Investing Note Pte Ltd (“InvestingNote”), an associate company of ShareInvestor, the financial internet media and technology company and subsidiary of Singapore Press Holdings (SPH), now provides free crowdsourced information ranging from stock price estimates, company studies and research reports to help retail investors be more financially literate.

Founded in 2014, InvestingNote is a social network site which incorporates innovative technologies to enable interaction amongst retail investors in Singapore and in the region. The project is supported by the government's National Research Foundation under its i.JAM Reload micro-funding programme. is a free social media platform - a new-generation online forum - designed for investors to exchange investment ideas and access financial insights and information. ShareInvestor has a 15 per cent investment stake in the two-year old startup.

Retail investors who are keen to access diverse financial information from various experts can sign up for free at (See Appendix 1 on a step-by-step guide to signing up and accessing the various categories of financial information)

By setting up an account, registered users will have access to charting functions for technical analysis and market data from regional stock exchanges. Users can also view stock estimates, learn about different investing styles and discuss trading ideas with other users.

In addition, they can also view news provided by ShareInvestor Express, which comprises mainly of corporate announcements from SGX. 

InvestingNote has built up a pool of financial experts and investors as users, including top-tier remisiers, stock educators, professional traders and prominent financial bloggers to share their opinions and knowledge.

The website has a formal verification process to evaluate the experts before they are awarded with a user badge to certify their competencies. These financial experts can build their reputation in the social media space through making forecasts and sharing their investing knowledge.

Reputation points are allocated to the financial experts when they gain new followers, garner ‘likes’ for their postings and have other users share their posts.  Through the points system, registered users will be able to determine the experts’ credibility and quality of posts. 

Since the service was launched in August 2014, it currently has 4,500 registered users. 

Mr Shanison Lin, Chief Executive Officer and Founder of InvestingNote, said: “Investing can be an intimidating process for beginner investors, so we have created a unique holistic ecosystem that caters to investors of different competencies. He added : “We are working with The Society of Remisiers Singapore to tap on the knowledge and expertise of its trading representative members who may be interested to establish their foothold in the social media space."

Mr Lin was formerly a software engineer with ShareInvestor’s applications team where he was involved in the development of the ShareInvestor portal and the roll-out of the first generation of SI mobile technology.

For investors who are on-the-go, the Android version of the mobile app InvestingNote is already available at the App Store. The iPhone version of the app will be released in April 2016.
