Asia Beer Awards return to Beerfest Asia 2016

Singapore, 14 June 2016 –  Asia Beer Awards, presented by Redmart, returns to Beerfest Asia 2016 to honour and recognize the very best in the beer industry. On 16  June, a total of 160 beers across 15 categories will be judged by a panel of 16 esteemed judges. 

Set in the picturesque Marina Promenade, the beers will be judged according to their categories: Belgian Blonde Ale, Belgian Dark Ale, Brown Ale, Cider, and so on. The judges will make their decision based on appearance, aroma, flavour and body, style and technical quality.  Points given will depend on the beer’s colour, its carbonation, how balanced it is and its overall drinkability among other things. A total of 50 points can be awarded.

In each category, the top three beers will receive gold, silver, or bronze certificates and medals. There will be additional “Best Of” awards, with outstanding beers being crowned the Best of Singapore, the Best of Festival and the prestigious RedMart Champion Beer award which will be selected by RedMart beer experts from among the gold certified beers.

The international panel of judges come from all walks of the beer industry, across the commercial and craft beer sectors.  Made up of Michael Richmond, Brewing Process Manager, Stone Brewing Co. (USA); Chris Williams, Brewing & Quality Manager, SABMiller (HKG); David Pilgrim, Vice President, Singapore Craft Brew Club (SG); Franck Berges, CEO, Beer Importers and Distributors (AUS);  among others.

Presented by United Overseas Bank Ltd (UOB), Beerfest Asia will be held from 16 to 19 June 2016. Currently in its 8th edition, visitors can expect the largest selection of international beers ever at Beerfest Asia 2016 with over 500 beers from more than 35 exhibitors. Additionally, a large number of new beers making their debut in Singapore, including Archipelago Brewery’s new Singapore Blonde Ale, Chaoying’s Flensburger Winterbock, SABMiller’s Fat Yak and more, with craft offerings from the likes of Hardywood, Buxton, Lervig, 8 Wired, and Baird amongst the exhibiting beers. The four-day event will also bring consumers stage entertainment such as tribute bands, an Electronic Dance Music Marquee, and the Comedy Lounge.
