Singapore, 24 July 2016 – The eleventh edition of Shape Run, Singapore’s first competitive women’s run, concluded successfully this morning at the Bayfront Event Space.
The very first race event held at this location, the new starting and finishing points gave participants the opportunity to enjoy the view of Singapore’s picturesque city skyline and iconic attractions, such as Merlion Park, the Singapore Flyer and Gardens by the Bay, as they ran.
This year’s run saw a turnout of over 9,500 participants across four categories – 5km, 10km, 15km, and a novel 1.8km Family Fun Run, where women could sign up with their husbands and children. Shape Run is the only women’s run with a 15km category to prepare runners for the next challenge of a half or full marathon.
Another first for this year's Shape Run is the charity component of donning on pink capes for charity. When registering for the race, participants had the option to purchase a pink cape for $7. All proceeds went to Life Community Services Society, which supports disadvantaged children.
The champions of the 15km, 10km and 5km races won cash prizes of $300, $200 and $100 respectively, as well as products and services from sponsors. Other participants didn’t go home empty handed either – everyone received a Finisher’s Medal and other awesome items in an impressive race pack worth over $400, collected at the Shape Run Carnival two weeks ago.
After the run, participants stayed on to enjoy the fringe activities at the race site. There was plenty to see and do as sponsors offered sampling opportunities of their products and services. Various lucky draws, fun games and a 45-minute post-run workout were held too. The 20 finalists from The New Paper New Face modelling competition also made their first public appearance, giving everyone a chance to get to know them better.
“Running is an exercise enjoyed by women of all ages and backgrounds. Year after year, Shape Run has become bigger and better to cater to the growing pool of female runners in Singapore. The magazine encourages a healthy and active lifestyle, and by organising large-scale fitness events like Shape Run, we give many women something to work towards and look forward to every year,” said Zarelda Marie Goh, Editor of Shape, SPH Magazines.
Diane Lee, General Manager, Fashion & Beauty, SPH Magazines, said: “Shape Run appeals to a high number of women in Singapore because its range of race categories caters to beginners and seasoned runners alike. We are proud that women runners in Singapore continue to mark the run in their calendars every year for over a decade now. We are also thankful to our partners for their unwavering support over the last 11 years. Without them, we wouldn't be able to offer runners the race pack with most awesome goodies in town!”
First introduced in 2006 to inspire women to lead a healthier and more active lifestyle, Shape Run is organised by Shape Singapore, a women’s health and wellness magazine licensed under Meredith Corporation and published by SPH Magazines Pte Ltd.
