Distinguished Chinese Language Teachers Awards 2018 calls for nominations

Singapore, 20 March 2018 --- The Distinguished Chinese Language Teachers Awards 2018, endorsed by the Ministry of Education, will open for nominations from tomorrow21 March till 16 April 2018.

Formerly known as “Inspiring Chinese Language Teachers Awards”, the Distinguished Chinese Language Teachers Awards 2018, back for the 21st year, is organised by Lianhe Zaobao, zaobao.sgand The event is co-organised by Singapore Centre for Chinese Language, The Society of Chinese Education Singapore, Singapore Chinese Teachers’ Union, Singapore Middle School Chinese Teachers’ Association, and sponsored by Lee Foundation.

The objective of the Awards is to give due recognition to deserving Chinese language teachers who have shown exemplary effort towards the teaching of the Chinese language and culture. The Awards also reward teachers who have been cultivating students’ interest in learning Chinese language and culture through creative teaching or co-curricular activities, and develop an appreciation for the Chinese language and culture in students. 

All Chinese language teachers from primary schools, secondary schools, pre-university and junior colleges are eligible (except for past winners) to be nominated. All winners will each receive a cash prize of $1,500 and a trophy. 

Students, parents, school principals and teachers are encouraged to nominate outstanding Chinese language teachers for the Awards. Nomination can be done through scanning of a QR code or online at

The nomination must be accompanied by a short write-up (in either Chinese or English) of no more than 500 words about how the nominee has made Chinese language lessons livelier and more captivating through creative teaching methods or co-curricular activities. The nominee should have also demonstrated a high level of dedication in helping students in their language learning, as well as shown concern and understanding for students.
