HP and Singapore Press Holdings collaborate to provide innovative digital printing solutions for media and brands

New PageWide Web Press will unleash innovative media solutions for SPH clients, deliver mass customization and value-added content to readers

SINGAPORE, July 25, 2018 — HP Inc. and Singapore Press Holdings (SPH) today announced they are collaborating to enhance SPH’s innovative media solutions for its advertisers and brand owners. The agreement will include the addition of a HP PageWide Web Press T240 HD to SPH’s Jurong printing facility. HP will provide training in deploying digital printing for brand and customer engagement as well as business development support.

The agreement was signed by Mr. Anthony Tan, Deputy CEO, SPH and Mr. Richard Bailey, HP President of Asia Pacific and Japan, at the SPH News Centre Auditorium.

“While brands understand the value in giving customers a seamless, personalized experience online and in print, making that a reality can be challenging for many,” said Mr. Bailey. “HP’s digital printing technology enables publishing houses such as SPH to create differentiated experiences for their target audiences and as well as offer high quality customization to brands. Brands, in turn, can then better engage their consumers.”

Added SPH’s Mr Tan: “This new press expands SPH’s options and flexibility to handle a variety of print jobs for both internal and external clients. For example, this allows us the flexibility to publish titles with smaller print runs to cater to the needs of different audiences. This will also enable us to leverage the in-house expertise of our integrated marketing and production divisions as well as our newly-launched creative and content marketing unit, Sweet. By providing end-to-end capabilities from conceptualization to customization and execution, SPH is well positioned as Singapore’s leading publisher, as well as to be the turn-key solutions provider to address discerning communications requirements of advertisers and brand owners.”

Enhancing reader engagement with personalized content

The HP PageWide Web Press T240 HD supports content customization across text, graphics and images. This enables SPH to offer a wider range of curated content – including personalized greetings and messages, targeted advertisements, unique QR codes and wraparounds that will drive readers to more content online.

SPH can tap into a proprietary “invisible watermark” technology which allows advertisers and brand owners to reach out to readers through interactive campaigns. The “invisible watermark” is embedded within and does not disrupt the overall look and feel of a print advertisement. With an appropriate mobile app, unique digital experiences can be delivered to users when they scan over the print advertisement.

Taking quality, efficiency and versatility to new levels

The HP PageWide Web Press has a high duty cycle of 58 million images per month and can produce 100 per cent variable content at speeds of 152 metres of newsprint per minute. This makes it ideal for moving offset work to digital and delivering outstanding print quality suited for a wide range of commercial print applications, such as books and catalogues.

It also comes equipped with the HP High Definition Nozzle Architecture (HDNA) technology, which raises the bar in digital color quality. Using 2,400 nozzles per inch to native resolution and dual drop weight, it delivers image quality ideal for demanding applications in publishing, direct mail, and commercial print. The nozzle redundancy ensures greater uptime by minimizing print defects, reducing waste and maintaining high print quality over long runs. The digital press also continuously monitors and actively adjusts color to color registration to provide consistent quality throughout a run.

The press will be progressively installed and tested during the last quarter of 2018 and is expected to be commissioned by the first quarter of 2019.
