SPH Red Apple Day 2019 collected 119 units of blood

Singapore, 24 July 2019 – Singapore Press Holdings (SPH), in partnership with the Singapore Red Cross Society, has collected 119 units of blood from 160 donors today at SPH Red Apple Day, its annual blood donation drive. Into its 19th year, the event at the SPH News Centre Auditorium attracted SPH staff, students of Beatty Secondary School and their parents and teachers, as well as members of the public.

Ms Gracinia Lim, Assistant Head, Marketing & Communications (Singapore Red Cross) said: "We would like to congratulate SPH as they celebrate their 19th Red Apple Day. We are very grateful for their strong support to the National Blood Programme as they've continued to be a strong partner in advocating the importance of blood donation to the community. Just like SPH, we encourage more donors and partners to step forward regularly."

Beatty Secondary School Principal Mr Ling Khoon Chow said: "Beatty Secondary School is pleased to partner SPH in their blood donation drive yearly. I believe that this exercise helps our students to understand the importance of blood donation from a young age so that they will consider donating blood when they are older. Our students can also serve as ambassadors to share with their family and friends the importance of blood donation. Through this drive, we also hope to encourage and make it easy for our stakeholders such as our staff and parents to donate blood and play their part in saving lives."

This is the first time that Secondary One students from Beatty Secondary School joined in the event for a learning journey. Experiencing the ins and outs of a blood donation drive for the first time, the students learnt the significant role blood donation has in saving lives.

SPH Red Apple Day 2019 was sponsored by Benelux, Gardenia, Waiz and Asepso.

The event media partners were SPHMBO and SPH Radio stations – ONE FM 91.3, Kiss92, UFM100.3, 96.3好FM and MONEY FM 89.3.
