Back launches Lohei Butler, special programmes on CNY microsite

-          Free access to’s premium content over CNY weekend

Singapore, 9 February 2021 - With Covid-19 safety regulations in place that limits visiting and lohei rituals during this Chinese New Year (CNY) period, Lianhe Zaobao and have lined up a series of exciting engagement tools and content to keep its readers entertained. 

This includes the launch of’s CNY microsite, a Lohei Butler to guide readers through this year’s silent loheis, a docu-series on sending love across borders, CNY sticker packs, and three special CNY shows.

Readers will be given free access to all content on over the CNY long weekend from Thursday, 11 Feb (eve of CNY) to Sunday, 14 Feb (third day of CNY). Premium content will be made available to all readers, including non-subscribers, on’s website and mobile application. The premium content will also include the e-papers of Lianhe Zaobao, Lianhe Wanbao and Shin Min Daily News.

 In addition, for the first time in its 98-year history, Lianhe Zaobao will be publishing a print edition on the first day of Chinese New Year (12 Feb), which is traditionally a non-publication day for the flagship Chinese paper. Besides the usual deliveries to subscribers, Lianhe Zaobao will be available for purchase at selected retail outlets (see Annex). 

SPH Chinese Media Group launches “2-in-1 Lohei Butler (Lohei小帮手)” 

Those celebrating lohei can now use SPH Chinese Media Group’s (CMG) “Lohei Butler”, an online tool that plays videos and recordings of auspicious cheers when tossing yusheng. 

Readers can follow the video guide while doing their own tossing ritual. For users who prefer to add yusheng ingredients at their own pace, a sound menu is available where specific auspicious phrases can be played once they are ready with that step.

Launch of CNY microsite has launched its CNY microsite, where readers can browse through Chinese zodiac predictions, delicious CNY recipes and healthy eating tips. In addition, readers can stay updated on the latest Covid-19 measures during the CNY period.

The microsite also features an interactive puzzle featuring scenes from various CNY traditions that encourages readers to learn about common CNY greetings through a gamified experience.

“Wish I could come home for CNY” - A docu-series on sending love across borders, Lianhe Zaobao, Lianhe Wanbao, Shin Min Daily News, and SPH Radio’s Chinese stations, UFM100.3 and 96.3 Hao FM, have collaborated with Malaysia's Sin Chew Daily on a social media campaign titled "Wish I could come home for CNY".

 The campaign, which was launched on 6 Jan, invited members of the public who are separated from their loved ones to share their thoughts on Instagram or Facebook with the hashtag #好想回家过个年. Three contributors were selected at the end of the campaign on 27 Jan to deliver care packs of their choice to their loved ones in Malaysia. In return, their families were also given the opportunity to send them packages from Malaysia.

Three shows to celebrate CNY 

On the eve of CNY (11 Feb), will launch a special CNY programme at 11:30pm, which features a live stream of the exciting CNY countdown at Sembawang God of Wealth Temple and Kong Meng San Phor Kark See Monastery. The programme will be available on and its mobile app, as well as the Facebook pages of, Lianhe Wanbao and Shin Min Daily News.

On the first day of CNY (12 Feb), readers can catch an exclusive online music programme at 3pm. Viewers can expect to hear CNY tunes with a twist performed by local jazz-pop singer Joanna Dong, local vocal groups MICappella and Chordinate Singapore, and ensembles from Red Dot Baroque and Ding Yi Music Company, as well as Singapore Chinese Orchestra. The show will be available on and its mobile application as well as the Facebook pages of and zbNOW.

The third programme, “Joys of Spring'', is a two-part show jointly presented by CMG and River Hongbao. This will premiere on 16 Feb at 7:15pm and 9pm respectively.
