SPH News Tablets now offer magazine titles, new device, and refreshed interface

Singapore, 26 March 2021 - Singapore Press Holdings (SPH) has updated its News Tablet offerings with a new device — the Samsung Galaxy Tab A7 Wi-Fi. This will have a refreshed interface for a more intuitive reading experience as well as the introduction of magazine titles to its suite of publication selections. 

The News Tablets now use the Samsung Galaxy Tab A7 Wi-Fi device, which has a larger 10.4” screen, thinner borders, better screen resolution (2000 x 1200) and beautifully rich audio. It also boasts a slimmer, lighter 7mm body with a 14% larger 7,040mAh battery for more power throughout the day. Storage has doubled to 64 GB, and can be expanded up to 1 TB with a microSD card.

The new devices are now using an updated app interface, which has the following features:

  • New way to access content

The quick access bar gives subscribers direct access to their subscriptions page as well as the newspaper and magazine rack. Multiple issues are available even while offline. 

  • Subscription to newspapers and magazines within the app

Users can perform a simple in-app purchase to add a new newspaper or magazine title to their subscription library. 

This includes Singapore’s number 1 women’s magazine, Her World, and entertainment magazine UWeekly, which are now conveniently available for purchase within the News Tablet. They are priced at $4/month (Usual price: $6 per monthly issue) and $5/month (Usual price: $2 per weekly issue) respectively.

  • Existing well-loved features

These include easy news sharing, one-time login, pinch to zoom to adjust fonts to their preferred size, as well as automatic app updates. 

Special limited time promotion 

From 23 March - 30 April, new subscribers of the News Tablet will receive a 1-year subscription to the Viu Premium 365 Days Plan (worth $76.61). Viu is a video streaming platform that offers Asian entertainment from Korea, Japan, Thailand, Hong Kong, China and Taiwan – ranging from the latest drama series (Mouse, River Where the Moon Rises, The Penthouse 2, Mr Queen), to variety shows (Running Man, The Return of Superman, 2 Days 1 Night), movies, and more.

Existing subscribers will also receive the 1-year subscription to the Viu Premium plan, and will be notified on how they can redeem it. 

This promotion is valid for subscriptions to participating publications, which include The Straits Times News Tablet, The Business Times News Tablet, Chinese News Tablet, Berita Harian News Tablet and is available only while stocks last. 

Subscriptions start from $19.90 per month on a 30-month contract period. 

Since its launch in March 2019, there are now close to 46,000 subscribers to the News Tablet.
