Singapore Book Fair 2021, Lianhe Zaobao’s Literary Festival to serve up exciting programmes and promotions for all ages

Singapore, 16 May 2021 - Organised by Singapore Press Holdings’ (SPH) Chinese Media Group (CMG) for the 36th year, Singapore Book Fair (SBF) 2021 will return during the June school holidays from 29 May to 6 June in conjunction with the second edition of Lianhe Zaobao’s Literary Festival.  

In view of Covid-19 measures, both events will be held online. Avid readers can check out the books on offer at Lianhe Zaobao’s ZShop, while online programmes will be broadcast live on the Singapore Book Fair website at and through the social media platforms of Lianhe Zaobao, Lianhe Wanbao, and Shin Min Daily News.   

The theme for this year’s event is “New Perspective”, encouraging Singaporeans to view our current world with a fresh pair of eyes and new appreciation through books. CMG’s artist-in-residence Lee Kow Fong, aka Ah Guo, designed the key visuals depicting this year’s theme.  

Highlights of the nine-day fair include:

  • Book sales at ZShop  ( featuring the latest collections from over 10 local book retailers. 

    • Pre-sale promotions and discounts of up to 35% will be available at ZShop during SBF.

    • Book retailers will also engage in live selling to showcase their collections.  

    • This year’s fair will see local independent bookstore and publishing company Epigram joining for the first time.

  • Daily voucher giveaway:  To encourage more Singaporeans to purchase books during the Book Fair, the organisers will be giving out a total of $9,000 worth of e-vouchers to the public through links published during the live programmes. 

  • Online talks presented by Lianhe Zaobao Literary Festival

    • Speakers include Singapore acclaimed writer and poet Alfian Sa'at, Hong Kong’s writer Ma Ka Fai, Taiwanese writer Luo Yijun and I Lo-fen.

  • Online talks presented by Singapore Book Fair 2021

    • Speakers include Singapore diplomat Kishore Mahbubani, award-winning writer and Xinyao composer Liang Wern Fook, academic Chen Kang, illustrator Ah Guo, Dr Wong Chiang Yin, Singapore entrepreneur Dora Hoan and Andy Hoon.

  • Kids Storytelling Sessions by NLB: 10 sessions will be conducted by NLB staff and volunteers in English and Chinese

  • Knock! Knock! Daily lunchtime live chat sessions: The live-chat programme will feature celebrities, politicians and doctors on their work from home arrangements. Guests include Tosh Zhang, Jaime Teo, Eleanor Lee, award-winning Taiwanese director Wayne Peng, and food blogger Miss Tamchiak.
