Singapore, 1 June 2007 - An all-new youth talent quest with a
charity twist is coming your way!
The search is on for talented youths
aged between 12 and 35 to showcase their talents for a good cause. Organised by
Chinese Newspapers Division of Singapore Press Holdings, the inaugural Youth
Talent Concert 2007 (青春展才艺) aims to promote Chinese culture and art forms
through musical or dance performances by individual or group performers. Apart
from the usual singing and dance performances, the organiser is also searching
for other talents who can perform Chinese cross-talk, rap, vocal techniques like
beat-boxing and even martial arts.
Participants who are shortlisted at
the audition in July will perform before a live audience at the Youth Talent
Concert on 1 September at the Singapore Conference Hall.
Proceeds from
the sale of concert tickets will be donated to the beneficiaries under
President’s Challenge 2007.
This unique talent search allows participants
the artistic freedom to choreograph their own performances which must have the
pre-requisite of combining traditional Chinese art forms with the performance of
their choice.
A judging panel consisting of experts in the arts and
entertainment industry will select the best performers at the audition to be
showcased at the Youth Talent Concert.
This year, the Chinese Newspapers
Division aims to raise $100,000 for President’s Challenge 2007 through the Youth
Talent Concert.
Mr Seow Choke Meng, Executive Vice President of
Administration Division, Times Properties cum Cultural Industry Promotion,
Chinese Newspapers Division said: "Chinese Newspapers Division has been
supporting the President’s Challenge since 2002. For the past
few years, it has organised the popular ZPop Charity Concert, one of the biggest
Chinese pop concerts in Singapore, to raise funds for the
underprivileged.
This year, with the Youth Talent Concert, we hope to
promote and showcase Chinese art forms presented with a modern twist. We hope
this will also nurture the appreciation of Chinese culture and arts among
younger Singaporeans."
SPH, as the nation’s leading media group, has also
been supporting the President’s Challenge with sponsored advertisements in major
newspapers to promote fund-raising since 2001. Meanwhile, The New Paper of SPH
organises the annual Be Yourself Day in schools in support of the Challenge
