President S R Nathan Celebrates Be Yourself Day with Students Who Dare to Make A Difference

- The New Paper Be Yourself Day in support of President’s Challenge 2007

Singapore, 29 August 2007 - From 24 schools in 2002 to 106 this year, The New Paper Be Yourself Day is gaining increasing support from schools all over Singapore. This year, the fund raising event has also reached out to students from international schools and preschool kids. Cherie Hearts International, a childcare centre management which has 30 centres around the island, has come on board. The event will also see the participation of ISS International School.

So far 27 schools have already celebrated TNP Be Yourself Day and raised a total of $31,421.13. Another 30 schools will be celebrating it on Friday, 31 August, while the rest will celebrate the event in September.

The day sees students coming to school dressed in their creative best to express their individual personalities. It is an occasion when teachers and principals get to see their students from a different perspective. Students, while enjoying their creative freedom, will also be asked to spend sometime thinking of those less fortunate than themselves.

Since its inception, TNP Be Yourself Day has been a fund-raising event for President’s Challenge, an annual charity event that benefits 32 charities.

This is the eighth year The New Paper is involved in raising funds for President’s Challenge.

President S R Nathan will grace this year’s TNP Be Yourself Day celebrations at Methodist Girls School and ISS International School on Friday, 31 August.

(Please refer to attached Media Advisory for media invitation to this event on 31 August).
