my paper,Singapore’s first full-fledged bilingual newspaper, is out!

Singapore, 7 January 2008 - Readers of Singapore’s Chinese freesheet my papercan now enjoy the best of both worlds when it relaunches as a full-fledged bilingual newspaper on 8 January!

Published by leading media group Singapore Press Holdings, the compact-sized, full-colour newspaper places equal emphasis on Chinese and English, offering readers double the content and twice the reading pleasure.

Divided equally into both English and Chinese sections, my paperwill continue to offer concise and thought-provoking news written in a crisp and breezy manner. While both the English and Chinese sections will cover a comprehensive range of news, from political, business to entertainment, stories on China, Taiwan, Hong Kong and the region will be covered mainly in the Chinese section to retain the original flavour of the news.

Instead of a mirror translation of stories, my paperis an uniquely integrated product in which each piece of news or commentary is presented in one language only. The bilingual my paperis designed to give a fulfilling reading experience to bilingual readers aged between 20 and 40 years old who desire to keep abreast with both languages, which are increasingly important in a globalised world.

The relaunch of the paper, which saw dramatic improvement in its design and layout, will be accompanied by an increase in daily circulation from 180,000 to 300,000 copies. It continues to be available from Monday to Friday at MRT stations, bus interchanges, office buildings and selected residential areas.

Mr Goh Sin Teck, who is the Editor of the freesheet since its debut in 2006, will continue to helm the Chinese section while Mr Yeow Kai Chai, the former Deputy Editor of Straits Times’ Life! Section, leads a new editorial team as Editor (English) to put together the English section.

Mr Goh said: "my paperaims to attract more readers who do not read Chinese newspapers, so the new design is more like an English newspaper to help readers adjust better to reading a bilingual publication."

Mr Yeow said: "The English section is targeted at busy working adults who want a diet of news on the go and opinion pieces from both journalists and the public."

Publicity campaign
Kicking off the publicity campaign for the revamped my paperwill be giveaways at Raffles Place MRT station from 8am on 8 January.

Goodie bags containing a bundled set of Nescafe latte with Tau Sar pastries from a famed Hokkien confectionery and a copy of my paperwill be distributed by a group of my paper"ambassadors" to the busy executives at all exit points of Raffles Place MRT station. The giveaways comprising the selected food items are in line with the freesheet’s objective of providing readers both western and eastern worldviews.

From 9 to 10 January, the "ambassadors" will be travelling on an open-top "musical bus" around the CBD to distribute more goodie bags during lunch time from 12 noon to 2pm. Touring with them are musicians from a Singapore band called Soul Ethnicity. They will provide entertainment for the lunch crowds with their brand of funky chill-out music using eastern and western musical instruments.

Finally, the campaign will culminate in the "Spin-a-Prize" draw at Raffles Place Courtyard on 11 January. Readers who show up with a copy of my paperwill stand a chance to spin the "sure-win" wheel to get dining vouchers, movie passes and more freebies plus a chance to win air tickets to Shanghai and Sydney at the grand draw.
