Hardware Zone Pte Ltd (Hardware Zone), a wholly-owned subsidiary of SPH Magazines Pte Ltd (SPH Magazines) has created a new grueling competition that crosses geographical boundaries to find Southeast Asia’s best PC technology enthusiast.
Contestants will be given a choice of hardware to build their system in the shortest possible time, set up and tweak it to the best usable settings, and at the same time ensuring they achieve the best performance for the buck.
The competition involves some known as well as surprise benchmarks to ascertain how well the contestants’ systems can hold up and what kind of results they can deliver.
They will also be assessed on how eco-friendly their system is, which will depend on their choice of hardware used and the kind of settings they choose to use on their systems.
HardwareZone Iron Tech 2008 is the first tech competition in the world to encompass all these aspects.
Qualification rounds started in early August 2008. Contestants were judged on how best they were able to optimise their existing systems, based on the percentage of performance improvement when tested against industry standard benchmarks.
Judges selected the best six from each of the 5 countries involved for the next phase. Over two weekends in September, the contestants in the other countries, except Singapore, battled in semi-finals rounds at their respective countries’ most popular IT and electronics malls. The top two contestants from each country will be flown to Singapore on an all expense paid trip to participate in the Grand Finals, to be held at Funan Digitalife Mall on 12 October 2008.
The Singapore semi-finals will take place on 11 October 2008. The top two local contestants will meet the regional finalists the next day in a showdown for the coveted title of Iron Tech champion.
Among the six semi-finalists from Singapore, one is a professional overclocker while another is a student who is also a forum master in www.hardwarezone.com®, a popular website among the PC technology enthusiasts.
This is the first ASEAN-wide tech competition of such nature. Back in 2003, Hardware Zone was the first company in the region to conduct a large scale overclocking event in Singapore. The event was very well received and saw contenders from around the region, and has since set the precedent for all such events. Now, Hardware Zone is set to create another milestone in the tech competition scene with the Hardware Zone Iron Tech 2008.
Jackie Lee, CEO of Hardware Zone, said: "HardwareZone Iron Tech 2008 is a challenge that we are offering our loyal users and fans, a chance to showcase their overclocking knowledge and prowess, to pit against some of the best technology enthusiasts from the region. Unlike your usual overclocking competitions focusing only on fastest performance, we included factors such as performance-to-price ratio and power draw. You will need to excel in all aspects to be crowned the HardwareZone Iron Tech champion. "
HardwareZone Iron Tech 2008 is proudly supported by MSI (Micro-Star International) and other sponsors. MSI is a world-class manufacturer of high quality IT products. It is one of Taiwan’s top 3 leading motherboard manufacturers and one of the top five frontend server manufacturers in the world.
