SPH is named Distinguished Patron of the Arts for the 16th consecutive year

Singapore, 21 October 2008 - For its contribution to the Singapore arts scene, Singapore Press Holdings (SPH) is named Distinguished Patron of the Arts at the Patron of the Arts Award 2008.

The awards will be presented by Dr Lee Boon Yang, Minister for Information, Communications & the Arts this evening at the Esplanade Theatre at 6pm.

SPH has been a Distinguished Patron of the Arts every year since 1993. Last year, SPH’s major contributions to the arts include the Singapore Arts Festival (Play! A Video Game Symphony), SPH Gift of Music series and the popular musical Dim Sum Dollies - The History of Singapore. SPH Gift of Music, launched in 2005, is a series of free outdoor concerts featuring local talents at performances in the heartlands, school campuses, the parks and shopping malls.

On the same note, SPH Foundation will be receiving the Patron of the Arts award. Last year, the Foundation, which was set up in 2003, sponsored the Singapore Writers Festival, the art installation by Suzann Victor at the National Museum of Singapore’s opening festival and Jump ,a Korean dance production, among others. This is the fourth year the Foundation is recognised at the awards.

Commenting on SPH’s recognition at the awards, Ms Ginney Lim, Executive Vice President of SPH’s Legal & Corporate Communications, and General Manager of the SPH Foundation, said: "We are proud to be honoured once again. Outdoor Advertising
In addition, SPH has ventured into outdoor advertising through its wholly-owned subsidiary, SPH MediaBoxOffice Pte Ltd, Singapore´s largest outdoor motion display advertising network media company, and a 35 percent stake in TOM Outdoor Media Group, a leading outdoor advertising company in China.

SPH owns and manages Paragon, the prime retail and office complex in the heart of Orchard Road, Singapore’s main shopping belt. SPH’s wholly-owned subsidiary, Times Development Pte Ltd, is also developing a 43-storey upmarket residential condominium, Sky@eleven, at Thomson Road.
