Singapore, 18 March 2010 --- omy.sg, the bilingual news and interactive web portal of Singapore Press Holdings, has launched the second Y-Bloggist (http://project.omy.sg/ybloggist/) today.
Returning after its inaugural success last year, Y-Bloggist is a youth-focused blogging challenge to encourage quality blogging among Singapore youths. It is the prelude to the annual Singapore Blog Awards, also organised by omy.sg.
This year, omy.sg has partnered renowned tech brand iKnow, which is the event's presenting sponsor.
Ms Lee Kuan Fung, Associate Editor of omy.sg, said: “With the advent of the Internet, anyone can be a content publisher. The Y-Bloggist is omy.sg’s platform for youths to get their content exposed to a wider audience and receive due recognition for it."
Making the competition more exciting and interactive, Y-Bloggist contestants are allowed to join the challenge as individuals like last year or as a group of no more than five participants.
The contestants will go through a few rounds of challenges such as covering mock media conferences and producing their own online videos. A panel of judges will grade the contestants after each challenge. Winners of the challenge are determined by their scores, as well as online voting by omy.sg readers.
Judges for the challenge include local singers and bloggers Ms Carrie Yeo and Ms Tan Diya, who are Aiptek brand ambassadors. Aiptek is a product managed by iKnow. Alsoon the judging panel is Mr U-zyn Chua, Managing Director of Ping.SG, a community portal for local blogs.
Ms Tan Diya said: "It's my second time doing this so I guess I am a semi-professional! My blog is the virtual window to my heart. I hope to get to know the youths better through their blogs. I still read Ah Dai's blog till now." Ah Dai was the grand winner of last year’s Y-Bloggist.
Ms Carrie Yeo said: "Youth is about passion and creativity. It is a time when you let your imagination run wild. Blogging is the best way to document how passionate, creative and imaginative you are at a certain point of your life. It's like putting your best moments in the safe."
Contestants stand to win over S$6000 worth of prizes sponsored by iKnow. Nomination and registration are now open. Details are available on the official website - http://project.omy.sg/ybloggist/
