Singapore Press Holdings Appointed Host News Agency For Singapore 2010 Youth Olympic Games

Singapore, 19 May 2010 – The International Olympic Committee (IOC) has appointed Singapore Press Holdings (SPH) as the Host News Agency for the Singapore 2010 Youth Olympic Games.

As the Host News Agency, SPH will provide comprehensive photographic coverage of the Games. Registered media will be able to download SPH’s high-resolution images via the Singapore 2010 website and international news agencies will also distribute these images to their subscribers.

SPH will also provide editorial coverage of Singapore 2010 Games so that readers around the world will be able to follow this inaugural event.

The appointment of SPH as the Host News Agency ensures that the editorial and pictorial coverage of the Games will be of high quality for both the international and local media’s use as well as for posterity.

Chief Executive Officer of the Singapore Youth Olympic Games Organising Committee (SYOGOC), Mr Goh Kee Nguan, said: “This being the first Youth Olympic Games, we hope to interest media from all over the world to cover the Games. With SPH onboard as the Host News Agency, I am confident that we will be able to provide a high quality of editorial and pictorial output that will help media from around the world in their coverage of the Games.”

SPH will put in place a team of photographers to cover the Games starting from the pre-Games period in July 2010. During the Games, captioned photographs of selected sports competitions, Culture and Education Programme activities and other Games-related activities such as the Opening and Closing Ceremonies and the Singapore leg of the Journey of the Youth Olympic Flame will also be available for registered media to download for editorial use at no charge.

On the editorial front, media can look forward to tapping on SPH’s supply of news stories covering the different aspects of the Singapore 2010 Games. SPH will step up its coverage of Singapore 2010 and report on the various Games programmes, operations and preparations in the lead up to the Games.

These high-resolution images and editorial stories will be accessible to the media via the Singapore 2010 official website at

About Singapore 2010

Singapore will be hosting the inaugural Youth Olympic Games (YOG) from 14 to 26 August 2010. The Singapore 2010 Youth Olympic Games will receive some 5,000 athletes and officials from the 205 National Olympic Committees (NOCs), along with estimated 1,200 media representatives, 20,000 local and international volunteers, and 370,000 spectators. Young athletes - aged between 14 and 18 years - will compete in 26 sports and take part in Culture and Education Programme.

The Singapore 2010 Youth Olympic Games aims to inspire youth around the world to embrace, embody and express the Olympic values of Excellence, Friendship and Respect. It will create a lasting sports, culture and education legacy for Singapore and youths from around the world, as well as enhance and elevate the sporting culture locally and regionally.
